On Friday 2 October, SAGES English Lecturer Matthew Feinberg will be giving a talk at Kent State’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative downtown at 1309 Cleveland Ave Suite 200, from 12-1. It is free and open to the public. The title of the talk is Re-Making Madrid: The Cultural Ecology of the Spanish Economic Crisis. Dr Feinberg will be talking about the various ways that citizens in Madrid have reclaimed and appropriated spaces in the city left derelict by the economic crisis that began in 2008. Central to this discussion is the way that citizens have used cultural projects (theater performances, music, etc.) as a strategy of grassroots urban renewal.
